What is CTE?
Career and technical education (CTE) is instruction that prepares scholars for careers. CTE pr to career opportunities and requirements and helps them obtain technical skills, apply academic skills, and develop career-related behaviors. The purpose of CTE is to provide learning experiences where students become aware of a broad spectrum of careers and develop skills that are applicable to personal and career roles and are necessary for employment in specific career areas or postsecondary study. CTE programs aim to prepare students for life after high school. We will offer programs across multiple CTE clusters and multiple credential/certification trades with the goal of preparing all graduates to earn an industry-recognized credential or certificate, and to compete for educational, employment and other commercial opportunities in and around Nassau County.
CTE at Academy Charter School
Our CTE model encourages high academic achievement and career immersion with the purpose of preparing scholars for continuing education and professional development as well as employment. Academy scholars will work to earn Regents diplomas, as well as skills and credentials that will lead to more options for college and career. In the ninth-grade scholars take exploratory courses in Culinary Arts, Medical Sciences and Computer Science/IT. This allows scholars to identify their interest areas and choose a CTE pathway. Academy Uniondale scholars will be able to purse certification in one of the following career fields: Culinary Arts, Nursing Assistant, Cyber Security or Networking. Upon high school graduation, scholars will be prepared to enter the work force or pursue post-secondary education.
